Duckett Building Services, Cumbria & Lancashire
On 1 October 1946 E & E Duckett was established by brothers Ernest & Edward following their demobilization from the Armed Forces after World War II. They acquired Bell & Wilson, Joiners and Undertakers together with a workshop at Lonsdale House, Holme. Two years later E & E Duckett moved to premises at Greenside.
In 1963 Edward Brian (known to most as Brian) started work as an Apprentice Joiner. He served his Apprenticeship and attended Day Release at College. E & E Duckett had now commenced Housing Development - incorporating 35 bungalows at Mayfield Holme and 25 bungalows at Staveley in addition to many single dwellings locally.
1976 saw the retirement of Ernest from E & E Duckett however he continued running the Funeral Services. Edward Duckett & Son was established incorporating Brian as a partner with Edward (Ted). The business at that time provided employment for seven. On the retirement of Ted, Brian became the senior partner and in 1999 - Duckett Ltd was established as the Main Contracting Division. Edward Duckett & Son continues to this day as a joinery manufacturer and funeral services provider. Greenside Cleaning Services was established in Holme offering additional services.
In 2004 the potential of a significant investment was realised with the acquisition of Clawthorpe Hall Hotel. Following extensive alterations Clawthorpe Hall Business Centre was born providing a unique development of quality business units for small to medium sized rural enterprises. Duckett Building Services relocated their head office to Westmorland House at the new centre. In Spring 2005 our Plumbing Department was created within the organisation and the company is now Gas Safe registered.
The Board of Directors at Duckett Ltd now consists of Mr E B Duckett, Managing Director, Mrs D C Duckett, Company Secretary, Mr D A Stevenson, Contracts Manager and Mr E S Duckett, Projects Manager. Duckett Ltd employs approximately 60 employees plus additioal site based trades people. Most projects have sub-contracted elements of work which are tendered for by companies around the area.
Looking to the future Duckett Ltd has developed extensive plans for continous growth in the Construction sector.
